She, Abandoned In This Place Poem by Jean Renwick

She, Abandoned In This Place

Slightly imperfect symmetry
but then
those people are often the most attractive.
She is shy and troubled, a past deeply hidden.
Sadness and previous hurt she protects vehemently
without realising their irresistible pull.
Others think she is simply mysterious and are drawn to it.
A gentle soul, wouldn’t hurt a fly although she leaves
a wake of damaged lovers behind her.

She doesn’t know how to deal with that.

There is a dream – to be ‘in love’.
There is a longing – she tries to imagine it
because she’s never been there.
Maybe there is even someone waiting in the wings for her
but the ice doesn’t melt, and will not be broken.
Very, very tempting, is the need to give in
It’s not enough, though.
She’s scared to let someone in
or to let herself out.
Through the opening door.
