She Is So Young Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

She Is So Young

We open our hearts to many
But we only take a chance on loving some
In our dream of being loved and needed
By a special one

But often even our best
Ends in sorrow
We wish for love today
But today slips to tomorrow

And then one comes along
who sings to our ear a gentle song
Whispering 'I care about you'
'Here, in my heart you belong'

My longing heart seeks to follow
So tired of emptiness
Feeling so abandoned and hollow
Love deep, no longer shallow

She is so young
I don't know if it's possible she knows
the sweet sound rolling off her tongue
or if her very hopes are just far-flung

But all I know is the feeling that she brought
Has touched my heart
Sadness so hard to move away
With feelings precious that could not be bought

I think of her
Can't help it now
the arrow is flying to it's mark
as she touches my heart with her spark

What will become of me
I wish I knew my fate
So long it seems
I've been left here in wait
