Shiva's Smile Poem by Govind Ramakrishnan

Shiva's Smile

a black cobra
with a raised hood
slithers
around his blue neck
gaping in awe
at the primordial being
adorned with
a crescent moon
on his matted locks

even
the dance of the atom
comes to a standstill
pausing
to catch a glimpse
of his half-smile
delivered out of pure compassion
for all human-kind,
so caught up
in their pettiness
missing the bigger picture

I love how even the atom comes to a standstill to catch a peek of the great Shiva.

Wow. Your poetic image is stunning. I understand that Shiva is a part of the Hindu triumvirate, but the half-smile as well as the snake make me a bit unsettled and wondering. Is this intentional? But then the speaker writes of pure compassion. Your present interesting juxtapositions between humans and the Gods. I enjoyed reading. Thanks.
