Shopping Fever Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Shopping Fever

When merchandise flyers come in the mail
There is a frantic search for what is on sale
Rational: the more you buy—the more you save
Trawling for the big catch…caught up in the wave

With the chirping of birds…rising prematurely
Excitedly getting ready…wanting to arrive early
Pouring a cup of hot coffee…to slurp on the road
Heart rate is speeding up…in acceleration mode

The parking lot is empty…getting a choice space
A bill me later desire is written all over your face
Starting the beginning of the line… clearly in charge
With anxious patience…your expectations are large

The manager scans his watch…the door is unlocked
Like the Indy 500… the green flag is dropped
Dazzled by the breathtaking array… everywhere
Guided by a mental map… searching with care

Brand names are added to the cart one by one
The amount keeps climbing to an enormous sum
Adrenaline level heighten as you reach another aisle
Final lap is in sight…victory is indicated by a smile

Approaching the cashier…feeling extremely fulfilled
Basking in the glow of being accomplished and skilled
The total will be absorbed by a credit card… it’s okay
Never mind that it will take an eon of months to pay
