Si onques de pitié ton âme fut atteinte

Si onques de pitié ton âme fut atteinte,
Voyant indignement ton ami tourmenté,
Et si onques tes yeux ont expérimenté
Les poignants aiguillons d'une douleur non feinte,

Vois la mienne en ces vers sans artifice peinte,
Comme sans artifice est ma simplicité :
Et si pour moi tu n'es à pleurer incité,
Ne te ris pour le moins des soupirs de ma plainte.

Ainsi, mon cher Vineus, jamais ne puisses-tu
Eprouver les regrets qu'éprouve une vertu
Qui se voit défrauder du loyer de sa peine :

Ainsi l'oeil de ton roi favorable te soit,
Et ce qui des plus fins l'espérance déçoit,
N'abuse ta bonté d'une promesse vaine.
