Signals. Poem by Carl Roussell

Signals.

Rating: 5.0

I am at the corner
waiting for the light to change,
waiting for you,
I am waiting for you.

The light has changed
but you have not.

Green and yellow and red,
a walk and a stop signal.
I see this now,
so goodnight, goodbye.

Excellent metaphor for an on-off relationship. I particularly like the middle couplet.

Sometimes we change but the world around us does not. We see the light and a different path that leads us to a life that's different perhaps lonely, yet peaceful. We give up one thing to have another yet we still yearn for the company however chaotic or dysfunctional it was. An interesting write.

Your comment is so accurate. How often would a visual emotional traffic signal have made life decisions easier to make? Thanks for the read and comment. And may you cross your streets safely!
