Silent Voice Poem by Jose Gutierrez

Silent Voice

Communication is one things people need
I like to talk and text and call
I like hearing my voice
I like hearing peoples voices
I like hearing hers especially
Then why won’t she talk to me?

There are things I understand from her
And when she tells me I feel butterflies
She’s has lovable voice that I’d like to hear
I would listen to her rather than my own voice

If only I could hear her speak
If only I could hear her speak of us
If only…

But the silence is what I’m getting
She wont’ speak of us
She won’t open her mouth to me
And I’m just wondering what I did
Or what I can do to make it all better

Now all I hear is silence
I can’t hear my friends
I can’t hear my parents
I can’t hear my own voice anymore
Its getting dark
All I see is a loop from the roof calling my name
As I step one foot closer with my head held high
I hear a voice

It’s hers
As I hear her voice, I hear another, then another, then another
My parents, my brothers, sisters, friends, her
All telling me the same thing:
“Why? ”
Why? Because of the silence I hear
Because of the darkness I see
Because of the rope that kept taunting me
That is why,
That is why silence is my only voice
