Single Mother Poem by simbarashe moyo

Single Mother

She wakes up every morning
With tears in her eyes
Her eyes red from lack of sleep
Her feet cold because there is no one to keep her warm
Her soul troubled with no one to comfort her
Her life is full of pain and anguish
But she can’t give up

She sacrifices her happiness for her children
She works herself to death
Starves herself if need be
She puts on rags to make her children presentable
She lives a beggar’s life and is not ashamed of it

She is kind and loving
Her face is full of smiles all the time
She is her children’s role model
She gives them a reason to live
She gives them direction and guidance
Like a guardian angel,
She gives light to their path

Everyone looks up to her
But she has no one to look up to except God
She is the only one who knows how it is like
To be a single parent
