Sleep Walking Through My Poems Poem by Wayne Falconer

Sleep Walking Through My Poems

I went sleep walking through my poems
uncovered the grey faced mundane
discovered the heart beating profound
as I journeyed through strange land.

The first New Zealand son shone
woke past generation before my eye.
The farmer, settler and Kiwi socialist
the surviving solder and liberal son.

Went further through romantic fields
where purple plumes and lust lie.
Tongues are hot with lovers signs
desire covers both bodies and faces.

Uncovered the hippie peace brother
who rocked both by day and by night
he was the anti-establishment cat
who love rapped the night hours away.

The political jigsaw puzzle loomed
unfolded before my observing eye
saw how rich bankers dictate
our living standards and countries fate.

The mystical waves rolled onward
as I walked surreal coloured beach
gazed up to see the red glazed sky
pointing like some stairway from my eye.

Finally viewed social reality exposed
young modern families under heavy pressure
divorce and some couples falling apart
kids and others losing will and heart.

I went walking through my poems
uncovered the looming high connection
discovered the golden pathway home
as I traveled through mystic land.
