Sleeping Deity Poem by David N. Munene

Sleeping Deity

As you drift into the life after sleep,
May you follow angelic paths
And experience heavenly rest
For whence a goddess sleeps,
Alas! The heavens are on guard
The angels are alert
And sinners like me lament
That they cannot touch your garment
For your power to enslave them,
As it so surely does with untold charm
Stronger than the voo to the doo
Binding than the doo to the voo

Morning awaits for your wake,
Your yawn shall sunshine release
And your blink the skies open
Your stretch the horizons expand
Your step the universe move
Your sway troubles chase away

Sleep well dearie deity
The only one of my tribe
The only that is my kind;
Only eons and heavens higher
