Small Talk Poem by f. berhan kebede

Small Talk

Watching some of my favorite films
I think of those watching the same scenes
at the same time
for the first time
and I have a laugh and a cry
all at the same time
What pity for you fools who have yet to exhaust
lines that frauds across this land have used for their
comforting small mindedness
or simply just to get a point across
dreading the scrunch in your face
as I try to explain what I have just said
adding you to the joke
later
with friends
or people just as ignorant
-
These are the things I think of whenever forced to talk with people I would never
if my life was my own

'if my life was my own.' YES. The wisdom in this recognition resonates. Who would we be if we had only ourselves to live for, if we were free of consequence? Would we be better/worse? - would it even matter? This is beautiful. You have a great gift, not just your words, but perspective. Please keep sharing.

The life that is yours belongs not to you but the world that interacts with it.

If your life is not yours, then who's is it? Maybe instead of looking outward with negativity, it would be better to look inward for positivity.
