Smaller Than A Mouse Poem by Thabani Khumalo

Smaller Than A Mouse

Rating: 5.0

Can you imagine being smaller than a mouse,
being covered in a soft,
thick coat of shiny fur,
not having to worry about your mom
reminding you to wear a jacket
because you are already warm and snugly.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I don't want to take any credit for this poem,
it was probably written by a child
and thrown outside the school yard
where I picked it up and read it through.

I had been walking a long and painful journey,
yesterday - lagging along without hope but just the zeal alone.
I was on my way to look for an little end job
so I'd also be able to disseminate my holy works of poetry.
Suddenly I was inspired by a feeling of mighty and overwhelming awe
and then I chose to put it up here on this timeless wall of structured words.

I believe in the art of words
and to have them emanate from a primary scholar -
I believe is a cheerful win for all of us.
Poetry is still alive and these here are the good signs.
If you can and do so care enough,
maybe you can find this beautiful little child,
who is probably a student of Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria
and hail their name.
Tell them Thabani says hello and welcome to the life of insight.
