I'm not sure how much more you implied in this poem but i see a greater metaphysical meaning to this.
it is that when we look upon our existence, it must be, only if there is some greater sustainer of our existence, or that we must all be self sustaining, and will not cease to exist if everything else did. In a word, our soul's existence is either one of contingency or of independance.
