Social Distance Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Social Distance

Those who had been seeking,
Peace of mind for years to find.
And had found it to have earned.
At one time were thought to be,
Anti-social.
Party popping poopers.
And...
Excitement burners.

Today?
Many are encouraged,
To practice a 'social distance'.
Not to reach out or touch,
Somebody's hand.
Sneeze or cough too much.
And fear to be near,
Anyone suspected...
Of having had contact,
With someone who may be...
Acting unusually happy.
Without having a cause or reason why.
When everyone else appears scared to death,
Of losing their social status.
And pretensions to delude.
