Sometimes I Write A Poem From Far Away

SOMETIMES I WRITE A POEM FROM FAR AWAY

Sometimes I write a poem from far away
And pretend I know what it is
But it in fact is strange to me
And not my own
And all I do by writing it
Is hint at the truth
That I too am not mine alone
But in fact belong
To something I do not even know-

Sometimes I write a poem from far away
And I am far away from the poem also-
And do not understand what is written
And why and how it came to be what it is
Which is not me -
Sometimes I write poem which is not my own
And I am not my own either-

Poem of the Day

poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
