Song Of Eternity Poem by Waliur Rahman

Song Of Eternity

Rating: 5.0

In the darkest hour of the day, her smile lightens.
In the most intimate hours, I see her lost in unsaid thoughts.
In the gleams of mirror, her blinding glaze contours a different countenance
Of faces which are so unfamiliar and yet resemble a face which I once knew.
She lies by my side but I often hear the creeping sound
Of a sneaking shadow which stealthily crawls in.

Ah! Memories -why are you heavy upon my heart today?
Ah! Desires -why have you numbed my crippled potencies?
My heart is not a whetstone to sharpen rusted iron of faith
Which once burnished with fire.

Son of man! You're steel nor stone
Where fathomless water do whither you
And you stand upright to be withered without pain.
The balance of lifehas twisted scales.
Yet I put on a mask of the Joker
Who stands alone in a pack of cards
With plastic smiles engraved upon a plastic sheet.
The agony it hides-true. But deep within the anguishes rise
The sore smells and the wounds unwounds.

But how could I bear to let you go?
To live without you who is now not love but memories of love
Which I dearly once rooted within my self?
But how could I bear to see you in despair, if not shame,
Of carnal transgressions.

Your words are no balm to a distressed soul
For I doubt they are words post truth.
Your words sound of the burdened emotions
You carry to let life pass to the final abyss
Without complains to a final end
Where cruel destiny shall smile to put everything to dust.

But I am sure my epitaph shall sing
The eternal breach till eternity.
