Song Of The (Only Semi-Successful) Slimmer (To Be Sung To The Tune Of Michael Finnegan) Poem by C Richard Miles

Song Of The (Only Semi-Successful) Slimmer (To Be Sung To The Tune Of Michael Finnegan)

Rating: 5.0

Christmas time was such a sin again,
Crammed with bounty to the brim again.
Chocs and goodies by the tin, again.
How will I get thin again? Begin again?

Big Ben rang the New Year in again
As the glass was filled with gin again,
Soon the diet must begin again:
I’ll get in the swing again and swim again.

Calories will be reined in again,
Second helpings in the bin again,
Till the cravings all crowd in again
Shouting out their din again: Tuck in again.

Soon it will be time for spring again
When the birds are on the wing again
I, since Lent means greed’s a sin again,
Won’t eat anything again till thin again.

Shedding stones like snakes shed skin again,
I shall show a shapely shin again,
Drop that drooping double chin again,
Skinny as a pin again, so slim again.

Since I shall be svelte and slim again,
New admirers I will win again.
Free of fat and lithe of limb again,
Fancy frocks fit in again, take in again.

My huge shadow will be dim again,
Showing it’s not just a whim again
Till the Easter Eggs from him again
Make me gorge and grin again, give in again.

I give up; time to tuck in again,
Chocolate’s got me in a spin again,
Resolution’s in the bin again.
Next year, I’ll begin again…
…Dreaming again…
