Sorry Poem by Nick Downer

Sorry

every time he touched her,
the four year old was taught
to say sorry.
every time she saw her mum cry,
she used that word
she thought would help,
sorry,
cuz she was sure that it was her fault
mummy was sad.
every disapproving look,
every glance of disappointment
brought out that word.
she was taught it young
and it was one thing that stayed with her.
sorry-adj. associated with sorrow; suggestive of grief or suffering.
now she says it all the time.
its all she has sometimes.
and its small five letter frame
means more then anyone can imagine.
