Star Bright Poem by John Leroy Maxwell

Star Bright

You were so much younger than I, we did not try
to reason or wonder why, we were in love
The very depths of soul
Your eyes to me met just a glance, a look of love
for all to view, I did the same, for I loved you
But that was quite some time ago, where you
are now, I must not know
Some day by chance may hold your hand,
and then perhaps I'll understand
Why life does play the loving game, for me to
trust, no one to blame
Perhaps you hold a place on high, for me a glance
your beauty view, and maybe then in the bye and bye
a glance of love shall meet my eye
But now in dreams I see your face, your beauteous
smile can ne'er erase
In sunshine walk once more with you, the fields,
the clover, the vineyards too
So now I look to Heaven high, the brightest star
up in the sky
So bright at night, e'er twinkle still
See you once more, if be God's will
