Starlight Poem by Jill Shah

Starlight

Rating: 5.0

'We are all in the gutter,
But some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde

We are the ones that look to the stars.
Those beautiful orbs,
So unattainable.
But we shall reach them.
We scrimp, we save, we serve.
Amongst our grime, we build
A glowing rocket.
Finally! We shall reach the stars.
We are the ones that will find our stars.

We are the ones that saw the stars
Glowing brighter than ever in front
Of our eyes. We were so
Close. But then,
The star burned too brightly,
Blinding us.
It then scorched our lives to nothing.
Never again we try.
We are the ones that met the stars.

We are the ones that scorn the stars,
Those dreadful orbs
That kill the vain.
We know not to think of them.
They give nothing but
Fiery pain.
We now live sensibly
Alone amongst grime.
We are the ones that fear the stars.

Beautifully written wonderful thoughts. Yes those stars seem unattainable most of the time, but if we did not have them to reach for what would life be? Thanks very much for this poem and the accompanying quote.
