Starting The Day With A Smile Poem by Linda Engwall

Starting The Day With A Smile

Rating: 5.0

Running late this morning
Left for work without my coffee
Already late
At the last minute decided to pull
Into a fast food restaurant

Saw a beautiful little mini cooper
In front of me
Exactly like my own down to the color
We did our mini hellos
And then didn’t think more of it
Busied myself get my money out

Pulled up and put my hand out with my money
When much to my surprise he said
Your money is no good here!

I thought it perhaps was a joke
And looked around
Did they make a mistake
Make me wait to long
I couldn’t think of why

When he told me the lady in front of you paid
For your order
What
Why
Are you kidding?

Oh my how nice was that
No one had every done that for me
I thought I had heard or did I read about it
Someone had done this before
Or maybe it was in a movie

So I pulled out onto the highway
Grinning from ear to ear
A simple random act of kindness
From a stranger wanting nothing more from me
Than perhaps to just have that

A beautiful way to begin the day
