Stone Mason Poem by Donald Paul Richardson

Stone Mason

Stone Mason

Some hearts
Need strong walls.
I'm a hopeless mason.

Build a few rows
    take a break
        look up
distracted by your
              flashing eyes
caught up in your
             dazzling smile
Stupid me I
    Drop the trowel
        Pick up trust
            Open the gate
                Forget the wall
                    Ignoring
                             why.

I embrace entwine
  my eyes closed
      kiss you.

Morning comes
       Eyes open
           reach for you...

Alone
  wall in ruin
    begin again.

This time can I finish
before my next heartache
Knocks at the gate?
