Substance Makes The Poem
Substance makes the poem literally live,
It's the tasty flavor that our words give.
It's the probing meaning that touches the heart,
It's the sweet aroma that a poem imparts.
Substance is like a melody to an old love song,
That stays in memory and makes us sing along.
It's the depth of an idea that we can remember,
The wisdom of a thought that stays much longer.
Substance is not about the number of poems we write
But the beauty and depth of words, words that delight.
