Suddenly Without Warning Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Suddenly Without Warning

What point does it make,
For anyone today...
Making attempts to avoid,
The onslaught of adventures.
Coming from everywhere to be done.

A strapping securely into one's seat.
With a buckle that's tight.
Helmet on.
And eyes kept open wide.
May be less frightening.
Than this ride to take,
Screaming through it with eyes closed.

One should and must pay attention,
To the driver picked.
Done and allowed to sit,
Behind the wheel and rumored to be...
Crazy and known to take risks.
Regardless of the passengers.
Appearing to be medicated.
Or hypnotized.
Into a blinded mindlessness.
And thrilled by every twist and turn.
Taken suddenly without warning.
