Suicide And Cutting Poem by Victoria Gauci

I don't understand what our youth are thinking,
With so many thoughts of suicide,
They're cutting themselves to ease the pain,
Feeling no one is on their side,

It pains my heart to hear them say,
How they want to live no longer,
I want to reach out and save them all,
Teaching them to get stronger,

They talk about the parents, school,
And how they feel so alone,
Each environment filled with stress,
Their despair reveals the tone,

In my poem I speak to each one,
Who sits down to take a listen,
Being young is such a short time,
To your overall life's mission,

No one can bring you happiness,
It comes from way deep down inside,
You have to make the better choices,
It's all up to you to decide,

Parents all make some mistakes,
Some are worse than others,
Father's often abandon their kids,
Some are not the greatest mothers,

Friends will come and friends will go,
Each one makes an impact,
But what you do with the experience of each,
Is all in how you react,

High school years are by far the hardest,
But they are short compared to the span,
Of the overall life you live,
Love yourself and take a stand,

Don't let anyone take your heart,
Don't let anyone kill your spirit,
Even though on your worst days,
You just can't let go and forfeit,

Your dreams are yours and no one else's,
Who you are is so unique,
Stand up and believe in yourself,
Don't pay attention to who critiques,

We adults look to each one of you,
You hold the future of life in your hands,
Don't let your problems destroy your life,
Be determined and take a stand,

Life is a gift, you just don't know it yet,
These young days are on their way out,
Take pride in yourself and make up your mind,
To discover what life's all about,

Please stop cutting and thinking of death,
Please find someone healthy to talk to,
Talking helps to relieve stress and pain,
Your recovery will lead you to 'YOU'.
