Summer Holiday Poem by Heath Gunn

Summer Holiday

Back now to reality,
to work and reading mail.
Far behind is distant sun,
no warm clear seas to sail.
The hoiday is over,
the tan will fade too soon.
But the memories will always be,
of splashing by the pool.
Of many layers of suncream,
and many-a foreign dish.
Of snorkelling round coral,
gazing upon the fish.
No time to rush to meetings,
nor diary to check.
For ten days we laid out in the sun,
with smiles above our necks.
A wonderful time of laughter,
of fun and relaxation.
Many languages spoken,
words lost in non-translation.
But the smiles were universal,
the sun beat down on all.
And we can't wait to go back again,
oh yes. We had a ball.
