Sun Loungers Poem by Jennifer Birchall

Sun Loungers

Rating: 4.4

Still they lie side by side
Waiting for their winter storage
Many wonderful times have been had
Early morning tea contemplating the day ahead
Afternoons sharing dreams and wine
Evenings watching the sun disappear
Nights watching the dancing flames
Now lonely and deserted, dreams perished
Never to lay together again

I am reading this poem again for the fourth or fifth time and struck by something new- again. That sense of lounging in the sun, as the title of the poem establishes, instead of being filled with the warmth of the sun- the perturbing irony of it becoming a poem about loneliness. I imagine each time I read this poem anew I will notice something else!

Life is full and peaceful until taken away. A poem that shows us the universal equation. I liked the depth in this poem dear Jennifer. Many thanks for your kind words.
