Surrender Poem by Carrie Ahrendt

Surrender

The lights seem bright, God's man is still
the echo dies away
The words are ringing in my ears
about a better way

The message is a challenge still
I've heard it times before
But I've hardened so my heart
I've shut and locked the door

A hush has fallen on the crowd
the Holy Spirit speaks
I fight for tears of self-control
and find my knees are weak

And now we're asked to bow our heads
the music gently falls
He's asking those who need the Lord
to answer Heaven's call

My head seems light, my mouth is dry
I dare not raise my head
My heart is pounding frantically
o'er what the man has said

Dare I return to God again?
Dare I walk the aisle?
My friends will know the fake I've been
The walk will seem like miles

We stand to sing 'Just as one Plea'
'Oh Lord, I'm so un-done'
God's Spirit seems to beckon me
toward Jesus Christ His Son

Then suddenly I'm in the aisle
I can't ignore God's call
Forget the world, my friends, those eyes
'Lord, I surrender all'

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem when I was very unhappy with my life and my relationship with God. Many years have gone now - and I am no longer unhappy. God has become the center of my life. I write this poem to that 'someone' who is struggling with God issues in their life.
