Swimming My Fears Away

Swimming my fears away
poem by Maryam Ahmed Malik (aka MARS)

I have made up my mind
This is the day everything will change
Take me on a new course
Even though I know
In the back of my mind
There is something that keeps stopping me
I cannot put a handle on it
So what do I do
Breathe
I need a place
Where I can be in peace
I need to close my eyes
But at the same time
I don't want to waste time itself
I need to keep moving
Breathe
I need to relax
Put my body at an ease
That only weightless feathers can relate to
Breathe
I'm moving but I feel motionless
Is that peace I feel
I don't know
Breathe
Must I hold my breathe
Wait
I see something
It's when I finally breathe
I can feel it slipping away
Away in the ripples behind me
With every stroke
And kick
I feel a little lighter
I feel strong

I am myself here
I can do whatever I want
This is my piece of heaven
Where I can swim all my FEARS away
And float in a sea
Breathe
In a sea of pure
Breathe
Happiness
Where fear has no meaning.
