Take A Knee In Defiance Poem by Hebert Logerie

Take A Knee In Defiance

First, take a knee to defend your rights
Then stand up strong for the daily fights
And lastly, raise your fist up to the sky.

Drop to both knees for humility
The struggle is about equality
It's about sharing the apple pie.

We are tired of singing: we shall overcome
We want our dignity now. Please come
Join the battle. We shall win. We will win.

We want justice, our respect now, today
We want a better tomorrow, a better day
Free of injustice and brutality. We shall win.

We are all supposed to be equal under the law
Unfortunately, this is not true. We've seen the saw
Splitting the neck bone of our brothers and sisters.

Let's take a knee to fight for our rights
We're not protesting against the flags
We're protesting against the hate-mongers.
