That Moment When She Tells Me To "Shut Up" Poem by RIC BASTASA

That Moment When She Tells Me To "Shut Up"

at dawn you talked
that if this life is all about
suffering
then at that point it is better
to die

and i said how? do you die with
your own hands?
how do you die? i repeated the
question
and she did not answer but i

at dawn started to philosophize
about the essence of suffering,
as this is the essence of our
own humanity, our own Christianity.

the way to bliss passes on the
road of suffering,
for it gold is tested by fire
then man/woman has to be tested by
that same fire,

the fire of suffering
that purifies the soul which had
been garnished and dirtied by
the stains of our chosen
happiness.

you cannot be a cloud forever
the one that keeps on floating in air
and sing about the flitting states
the one that does not last forever.

take the roots of pain
it is deep and daunting but surely
it will be elevating
more than what the clouds are giving.
