The Anguish Of A Mother Poem by Kingsley Egbukole

The Anguish Of A Mother

The pain of a mother who lost a child
Who can imagine?
2.55am this early Friday morn
The Emergency Pediatric Unit
Awake and writing my poems
While watching over my daughter recuperating
A couple rushed in with a baby
Just between 2 and 3 years old
From the urgency of the medical personnel
The case was bad and needed urgent attention

While the doctors and nurses battled
Relations and friends fired prayers
To the heavenly above
I did the little I could in support
But the lass could not make it
Everyone went soberly calm and quite in pain
The pregnant mother was uncontrollable
Her tears were thick and like a river flowed

The father carried the little corpse out
But the mother refused to go home
She wailed more and more in anguish
Turned to the little corpse and asked
"Chisom, why did you leave me? "
Cold shivers ran down my spine
I could no longer hold my tears
And wished I never witnessed this sorrow.
