The Banyan Tree

Rating: 5.0

There is a banyan tree stands like a ghost at the river bank
It resists the floods and the heavy cyclone from an unknown time
By developing a number of secondary roots deep into the ground
It gives the shade to the passerby spreading the endless arms
And fruits to the animals, birds and men by opening the unclosed palms
It provides shelter to the snakes and lizards at the depth of his huge trunk
The children derive joy by jumping from the branch to the mid river
And hanging with the small branches beating their legs on flowing water
He is growing older and stronger to absorbed all pains of atmosphere
And proliferating its leaves to spread the purity in whole air
It becoming happy by listening boatman songs from faraway corner
But it never opens his mouth and endless arm to oppose any form of torture
