The Bearer Of Bad News Poem by Dee Daffodil

The Bearer Of Bad News

Rating: 5.0

Please understand
I mean you no harm
And on any other day
You might find me quite entertaining and charming
But not today...

As I ring your doorbell
I wonder how it will go
Will you be angry and upset?
Will you deny what I tell you?
Will you flail your arms and smack me?
Or will you lose your grasp
And slide into that unconscious slumber
Of the shell shocked?

There is no easy way to tell you this
You need to have a seat
If there were any other way
That I could change things for you
You can bet...I would
But I can't...
Your loved one died today...
Pause, while it sinks in
If in fact it does

Your loved one died today...
I've said these words
Time and time again
And...
It never gets any easier

And I stay...I stay...and stay...
And sometimes stay even longer than that
Until I know
That I have cared for you
And left you in capable and loving hands
Who will help you

Your loved one died today
And if I could change that...
I would

Dee, I absolutely hate this poem! Maybe, I avoided it before. This poem makes me angry! This poem makes me sad. I do not ever want to read this one again! You did this to me! - - - I am mad at you for that! You stirred up those things that nobody wants to deal with, and although it is a 'downer ' - - - it is one of the most powerful things that I have read in a long time! I think that you know me well enough to know that I mean every single word ... on some level! Dee, just in case you missed it - - - that was a ' Big-Time' compliment! ! ! Making others feel, nice or not, is what we do... isn't it? When life is easy ... then you can tell the easy truth too. ... One hug back at you, but, I am keeping the rest! B.V.A.

The longer you live the more this situation happens to us. I was thinking the other day about why, after the death of my Grandfather when I was fourteen and he was seventy two, was it that I chose never to attend another funeral other than my own. I still don't know why.....but I am glad I did otherwise at my age I would have a funeral to attend every week. We should all celebrate people and their lives while they are here with us. Very good write from you.

Oh dear Dee, I don't envy your job. Well done though on this write, no mean feat on capturing such a dreadful position. HG: -) xx
