The Beerhalls Were Empty Poem by Samuel Stuart Pennell

The Beerhalls Were Empty

The beerhalls were empty
among the doom and gloom
of the heavy evening

Long tables,
with no one at them

empty

The evening was still,
quiet,
and empty

The beerhalls stood empty

And so did the evening
