The Best Is Yet To Come Poem by Luke Easter

The Best Is Yet To Come

Have you ever been so moved out came tears?
A sermon on 8/23/09 I was privileged to hear,
Yes! Reverend McClinton, he truly can preach,
Some might even say that he actually did teach.

Whichever, whatever, whoever or how it’s put,
He had the congregation stomping their foot,
Speaking of Jesus who turned water into wine,
A message that was idealistically right on time.

But, first let’s start with the Good Hope Choir,
Cliff on keyboards and DJ on drums, lit the fire,
Cheree and Addie yeah, as usual took us higher,
No Betty Davis? Please tell me she didn’t retire.

Overflowing love with, plenty of smiles and laughter,
Deacons sang, “It’s Your Time” to Milton our Pastor,
Gene Fuqua presented a request with utmost sincerity,
Show you love for Rev. Bradford on his anniversary.

This was only the beginning, we were far from done,
Shifting into high gear, “The Best Is Yet To Come? ”
Beads of perspiration dripping, forming on his brow,
Occasionally clearing dew with a white hand towel.

No matter where it is or what you’re going through,
Do not give up because Jesus will be there for you,
Simply take a look at our Savior nailed to the cross,
Remember how even His disciples thought He lost?

They didn’t have the written word we have today,
Past history and faith predicts all will soon be ok,
Something looked familiar as a close-up told why,
Left in the pew 2 weeks ago I think he had my tie.

“How bad do you want it” is another one in Mac’s library,
“How can a Wise man be so foolish” is down right scary,
Sermons like these three will make you jump and shout,
Because that’s what good Baptist Preaching is all about.

Willie rocked the church even Pork Chop Greene stood,
Memories of swinging on the corner back in the hood,
Sometimes the promise will tarry, keep seeking the Son,
Stand on the word of God, “The Best Is Yet To Come.”
