The Blade Of Grass Poem by Randy McClave

The Blade Of Grass

In the cracked concrete a blade of grass was growing
Unto the world it's wonder it was showing,
It pushed itself up through the concrete from the earth below
Now proving to the world in awe that it too would grow.
The blade of grass was welcomed by the rain and the sunlight
And it greedily looked up at the billions of stars every night,
Then not far away it saw a lawn of blades of grass just like it
And how they were manicured and fed for a perfect fit.
Then it thought how it too one day would be part of a lawn
But, first all of this concrete below it must be gone,
Then it looked for other cracks of concrete that grass could grow through
Then other blades of grass like it soon could be known too.
And then after a while this piece of concrete would be no more
Grass once again would be the natural floor,
They would be manicured and fed and watered like a beautiful plant
As it's life unto this world nature once had grant.
One day it would feel itself and other grass swaying in the breeze
As noticed by the blade of grass in the nearby trees,
Then no longer would it be the blade of grass growing all alone
Soon, with other blades of grass together as a lawn it would be known.
Then while the blade of grass was making its strategy
Upon it came a swift and a saddened tragedy,
The homeowner saw the lone blade of grass growing from the concrete
So, he plucked it out, wanting a clean walkway seen from the street.
