The 'Brahmin' Chair Poem by Samanyan Lakshminarayanan

The 'Brahmin' Chair

Rating: 4.5

Gandhi was surprised to see-
such a practice at-
such a place.
The practice of the brahmin boys-
having their special chair in 'shanthiniketan'
such a practice in Tagore's school-
surprised Gandhi.

When Gandhi would ask Tagore about this-
Tagore would say-
'Let the brahmin boys themselves decide on-
sitting on a common chair, I will not compel them to do so.
Let them decide it on their own'.
The students who read 'Gitanjali' would do so
would come over their brahminism on their own.

This was the basic difference between -
Gandhi and Tagore.
Gandhi would force people to do -
what he felt was right.
Tagore would just wait for it to happen naturally.
It was a stupid practice though- but
a 'mind' related practice.

Today that chair is 'Physically' not there-
by force or whatever it has been removed.
Even today that chair is ' mentally ' there-
The superior and the inferior mindset.
Coming over- Crossing over would have made it complete.
Dragged over- pulled over has not made it complete.

To be an austere brahmin to realise the brahmam or brahman is extremely difficult..it's more a cosmic science to learn about the cosmos as well as oneself by a strictly desciplined code of life which was highly venerated in ancient times...today it's different and messy...timley thought of a poem10

Thanks for sharing this incident! To force someone is ditactorship! Gandhi in my opinion was so much strong with his views that the person automatically gets moulded into his form, its neither his fault.I would really like to know your view in this regard. Thanks a ton for your comments Regds tara
