The Closing Act Poem by Gina Teel

The Closing Act

I do believe
that when my time comes
to take the final bow
my heel will become caught
in the hem of the heavy velvet curtains

Accordingly
I shall land loudly with a thud
Spread eagle
with my skirt over my head

Because God has a sense of humor
and I, a born entertainer.

At first I thought this would be a dour poem - and also scary because the speaker is contemplating her own imminent death. But having set a stage set for high seriousness, you nimbly pull the rug from under our feet, and we tumble just like you figure. Why not just laugh it off? We are serious about so much, why not look for the laughter lining as you guide us to a different perspective - flexible, generous, delightful.
