The Condemned Poem by David McLansky

The Condemned

That I should live
In prison hate
With you my Warden
With no lease date;
My crime, my life,
My dry existence;
Deprived of love
On your insistence;
It’s sometimes more
Than I can bear;
I wax my belt,
I test my chair.
