The Death Of Shame Poem by Percy Dovetonsils

The Death Of Shame

What has happened
to KKKenosha, Wisconsin?
When did it move
to Alabama?

During the Civil War,
Wisconsin sent many regiments
to fight and die
to save the Union
and free the slaves.

Douglas MacArthur's father,
Arthur MacArthur, just nineteen,
led a spontaneous,
and wildly reckless, courageous,
charge
of his Wisconsin regiment
up Missionary Ridge
- - and it was STEEP- -
to defeat
Johnny Reb and the slavers.

Now the President,
most infamous racist
and hate monger
in the nation,
goes to commend
the Kenosha PD
for shooting
the father of three
seven times in the back,
and for coddling and cuddling
the teen terrorist Rittenhouse,
for killing two and wounding one
with his rapidfire
AR 15 Bushmaster gun,
and maybe to stir up
more violence and pain
to aid his campaign.

What goes on
in the Kenosha precincts
at lunch?
"Don't drink brown milk here.
We only drink white.
When there ain't no light
Kenosha's a sundown town.
No choco son of a gun
better hang around
when the sun goes down."

Why do the cops
who coddled
rather than arrested
KKKiller Rittenhouse
still have jobs?
Why does the cop
who shot Blake's back
fulla holes
in broad daylight,
smilin' for the camera,
still have a badge
and gun?
Do the Sheriff, the DA,
and the Mayor
think he did it
all in good fun?

In KKKenosha,
how far and fast
does an innocent black man
need to run
not to be shot
in the back
by a cop's gun?
How long
can he last?

Will anyone ever
clean that town up?
Or will it stay corrupt
forever?

KKKan the, will the, KKKenoshans
do it alone?
Do they have a notion
what just looks like?
Do they even care
if their law is fair?

Maybe they trust
their cops
to be unjust.
Maybe the last thing they want
is a department bust.
