The Departure Poem by Scott J. Shepard

The Departure

This wasn't the easiest of departures
The landing birds.
The refuge, some faraway not really heard of

Not right now at least

And he remembers the air, the fire ablaze
The land he wrapped his arms around
In camouflage,
please don't see these tears land or wash away

I'd like to tread these waters
Find friendship left behind
The most basis principle of serving life

This wasn't the easiest of leavings
There's a voice whispering in the valley

It's okay
Okay to cry

Rest your head on this shoulder of mine
The softest sound heard in awhile

Home,
You're home now
