The Elephant And The Donkey Poem by Randy McClave

The Elephant And The Donkey

The Elephant told the Donkey that the grass is blue
The Donkey said no that is not true,
The Donkey replied, "No! ", the grass is green
Because, on it I have walked, eaten and seen.
The discussion between the 2 then became very heated
And by their beliefs neither one retreated,
The 2 then decided to submit the issue to arbitration
And to do so they approached the Lion the King of their nation.
Before reaching the clearing in the forest where the Lion was sitting
Where listening to arguments he was permitting,
Upon his throne, the Elephant came charging and started screaming
Wanting satisfaction and redeeming.
'Your Highness, isn't it true that blue is the color of the grass
And not green spoke the Elephant looking at the Ass,
The Lion then replied: 'True, the grass is blue indeed"
Which upon all my subjects and even myself does feed.
The Elephant then rushed forward and continued speaking
Retribution against the Donkey he was then seeking,
The Elephant then said that the Donkey disagrees with me
And he contradicts and annoys myself, so please punish him is my plea.
The Lion then declared: 'The Donkey will be punished with 5 years of silence
And no more arguments that might start any type of violence,
The Elephant then jumped with joy and went on his way
And every word he said was about the victory he had won today.
The grass is blue he kept repeating and singing
And all through the kingdom the Elephant's voice kept on ringing.
The Donkey accepted his punishment, but then he asked the Lion
Your Majesty, why have you punished me, as if I were lying.
After all the grass is green that fact you and I both truly do know
We have both watched and seen it grow,
The Lion then replied: 'of course the grass is green which is a true fact
The Donkey then asked: 'So why do you punish me for the attack.
The Lion then pondered and then he replied
While looking at the Donkey with compassion and wide eyed.
This has nothing to do with the question of whether the grass is blue or not
The punishment is because for the color of the grass you would had fought,
It is not possible for a brave, intelligent creature like you to waste time
Arguing with an Elephant about a subject which is not a crime.
And on top of that to come and bother me with that question
The worst waste of time is arguing with the fool and fanatic is the lesson,
There are those who don't care or worry about truth or reality
But, only the victory of their beliefs and their illusions is their certainty.

Never waste time on discussions that make no sense
There are people who will argue against truth even when presented truthful evidence,
Some do not have the ability to understand, and others who are blinded
By their ego, hatred and resentment, and are never truthful or open minded.
The only thing that they want is to be right even when they are wrong
They want to parade up and down the street singing a victory song,
When ignorance screams, intelligence shuts up and it closes the door
Your peace and your tranquility are worth so much more.
