The Enemy Poem by Amanda Larsen

The Enemy

You look in the eyes of the enemy
The one you've been taught to hate.
Light blue the young eyes
Of a young man, a child

You see a boy,
desperately trying to prove he's a man.
You see fear, fear of death,
he didn't mean to die.
He's got dreams, he's got life
He's got a love, a baby son.

You seek a trace of evil,
A reason for him to die.
You've been taught you'll face monsters
Now you're facing a heart.

You know he must die
But somehow now
You can't recall the reason why...
You see a human in those eyes
You see dreams and hopes and life.
It's flesh and blood the same as you
A heart beating.

You remember the day you came here to fight.
You were doing a goodd thing, you were a hero, you were right.
You were fighting for your friends, your country, your son.
Now you see you're dieing for the money of the strong.
This boy never could have harmed anyone you know,
Still you pull the trigure and he's never going home.
