The Environment Poem by MaryLisa Russo

The Environment

Rating: 5.0

Be Conscious...Be Aware....Today And For Tomorrow

That's just it...
You 'think' you are so smart, so wise
You-
Yes-
You... will help make it wither and die
For there will be no more healthy insects, precious bees and flies
Look- go on, unaware human- please open those eyes...
The sun is melting into over-heated waters
Fix it now for (future) sons and daughters
Every vein on every tree quietly bleeds
Don't make it always about your own needs
The stars are losing their foothold as diamonds in the sky
Sea creatures are choking on our garbage we cannot let them die
It is getting passionately hotter, not the kind from a lover's embrace
It is because earth's precious climate is falling from eternal grace
Your planet.
Your water.
Your air.
Your soil...
You are borrowing it.
Preserve it for future generations....don't stab it bit by bit....
Caress the animals, kiss the trees, embrace the earth...plant those seeds...
Then perhaps you wont just 'think' you are smart and wise....you will be...
....and the planet will thank you in return.

Mary Lisa, this poem should be the creed for environmentalists the world over. I especially like the line: the stars are losing their foothold as diamonds in the sky.
