The Evolution Of Love Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

The Evolution Of Love

In my youth, Love was for me fresh and carefree.
The sixty's were a time to make love, not war.
Music was the best, flower people, the hippie -
All spoke of love as sweet but mine was far as the star.

Daydreams were free and hounded me even in school,
"Crush" was the word that made us girls all swoon.
That Paul McCartney guy really made me a fool
I was just seventeen, but for him I'd fly to the moon.

Then Time would change my view as we went through hard days,
Mom and Dad would part and leave me Love's true color.
Still the songs of Paul carried me in some ways
Music was a kind of balm to make us all life survivors.

The years had taught me lessons on what love really is.
Love can leave and die and come again as stubborn weed.
It can make or break a heart for not all love is bliss,
The unseen pain it gives can make one forever bleed.
