The Girl Who Always Laughs But Seldom Smiles Poem by Gabe Florsheim

The Girl Who Always Laughs But Seldom Smiles

There is this girl who always laugh but seldom smiles.
Every day I watch her from my seat,
As she steps through the door,
Or as I from the door walk to her.
And every day it’s the same small talk
“Hey Lea, ” “Oh Hey”
And the way she smiles,
The beams of light, and how she shines
Or atleast to me
Is wonderful.
But there is something interesting about this girl.
Every day I tell these jokes
And everyday I watch her laugh
And everyday I feel elevated.
But then the laughter ends and she turns back
Like a light switch she turns back
And I watch that too.
I watch her as she sits in thought
Or just sits and doesn’t think.
Just is.
I wonder what it’s like to be
The girl who always laugh but seldom smiles.
There must be something behind those eyes;
Those deep brown eyes
Like warm coffee
Inviting yet and relaxing
I wonder how it feels to be her.
All the other pretty girls will gossip and talk
Amongst themselves and they are exclusive;
Selective, only letting in those who
“meet the standards”
But she definitely meets the standards.
Atleast she meets my standards.
But she never talks amongst the pretty girls
She never talks.
She just sits.
Listens, perhaps.
I’d like to get to know her but
I am always scared to hear rejection
Scared to find out she’s just another
Just another fish in a sea of the like
And my line is just too damn twisted to ever catch one
But maybe she’s different
Maybe there’s a reason she always laughs.
Maybe she can smile a little more.
But not for me
For her.
I want to see her shine like I know she can
Because she is beautiful.
I’d like to get to know
the girl who always laugh but seldom smiles.
