The Great Deciever Poem by Jacqueline Fitzgerald

The Great Deciever

At the age of seventeen
I must not make a scene
I know what I must do
In order to split a soul into two
To them I am just their little bird
Repeating cleverly written words
Defiance is what breaks the others
Watching their destruction just like their brothers
Crushed down into the pavement
Held down by asphalt and enslavement
So I may be on their side
And be forced to abide
But I'll tell you one thing
And that is I could never be one of them
