The Letter Poem by Ray William Roldan

The Letter

Mom got a letter from the government yesterday,
it seems my only big sister gave her life for God and Country
in a land faraway!

They said she was a hero and her memory would last,
as she was laid near a million others who'd died in the past!

Died for God and Country,
I'd wondered who these monsters were!
then I thought they must be twins,
with fangs, claws and fur!

Brothers in death, with no bone, blood or heart
and no conscious to answer to,
for the lives they'd torn apart!

And I wondered if sis had gazed,
at the face of the dollar bill,
and how this was the exchange for the
'enemies' she would kill!

At the top ' The United States'
and at the bottom 'In God We Trust'
Some day I'll go to Washington,
ans ask God, if my sisters death was just!
