The Lie (A Song) Poem by Jade Leven

The Lie (A Song)

go on and get changed into your dress
make them think for one second that you're at your best
you have high chances of fooling their eyes
forget it... you'll never fool their minds

let them wrap you in secrets and unwritten laws
let them dismiss your strengths and point out your flaws
you love them, you hate them, it's all the same
we're all just players in this twisted game

and you'll drown in the ocean that once offered you so much captivation
as the salt strips away any remaining self-preservation
the tides have shifted every expectation

go on and skip to the fun part
when you talk, and you dance, and you forget that your heart
has suffered multiple stab wounds due to your lovely addiction
and is currently in critical condition

when the wine glass is empty, where will you go?
will you pass through each stage of a process that you don't know
when you've bled yourself dry, what will you do?
you can dream in memories or prophecies, it's up to you

and you'll suffocate in the room that once made the hours slide by
as each shallow breath that you take brings new meaning to the lie
that you'll live long enough to take it all back before you die

are you sick to your stomach?
lying on the floor?
maybe if they saw you like this
they'd start caring a little more

every shade
of blue and gray
although they can't
quite chase away
every tear that you've cried
every mess you've been in
it still helps you to know
like you, they once belonged to him

like you, they once belonged to him
